Filmgoers experienced Christie RealLaser projection for the first time in the UK at The BFI Patron’s Gala showing of Colette last week at the 2018 BFI London Film Festival. Dominic Simmons, head of technical services at the BFI, was keen for the 2018 festival to embrace the technology trends currently transforming the cinema viewing experience.
The 10th annual DTLA Film Festival, October 17-21 at Regal L.A. Live and venues throughout downtown Los Angeles, announced today its short form content programming, consisting of 77 short films, TV pilots and web series episodes (in addition to the 30 feature films announced earlier).
QSC sponsored the 2018 Vancouver International Film Festival which spanned sixteen days and ends today. QSC equipment was utilized in all seven venues, including the hearing assistance equipment in The Centre for the Performing Arts, the location of the opening and closing gala screenings. The project was particularly challenging because The Centre Theatre was not designed as a cinema. There are three seating levels in the 1800-seat theatre, and all of the equipment needed to be installed within two days.

Christie announced that is the official digital projection partner of the 43rd Toronto International Film Festival, the world’s largest public film festival. Filmmaker Megan Griffiths has announced that she and producers Lacey Leavitt and Jennessa West will independently release her acclaimed drama Sadie. Working with creative distribution strategist Mia Bruno, the film will begin its roll out in New York and Los Angeles on October 12.
The producers of the Conscious Cartoons International Animation Festival, which starts September 14-16 on Vashon Island, Washington, are calling it the first of its kind worldwide. Conscious Cartoons will feature three days of animated shorts – many of them award winning – from around the world with socially conscious, humanist themes. The festival includes something for everyone, from kids to adults. The goal is to harness the power of animation to inspire compassion and provide insights into the human condition in ways that live action media often fails to do.
The 22nd annual Arab Film Festival begins October 12 at the historic Castro Theatre in San Francisco, and this year, for the first-time, will partner with the Asian World Film Festival for its screenings in Culver City at ArcLight Cinema.
