FLiK Cinemas has selected Destiny Seating and Volfoni to equip their new platinum-class multiplexes. Volfoni partnered with Destiny Seating to supply FLiK Cinemas with their 3D hardware systems. FLiK Cinemas has recently completed the first platinum-class and gold-class multiplex in the Gulf Cooperation region, which comprises the energy rich Gulf monarchies Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Grand Cinemas, the leading cinema chain in Lebanon, Jordan and Kuwait, is installing Volfoni 3D systems for its roll out of more than 40 screens. Volfoni’s 3D cinema technology will be deployed in a new multiplex to be opened this month in ABC Mall in Verdun, Lebanon. In line with its strategy of expanding vertically and horizontally in the region, Grand Cinemas counts today over 81 screens, with additional new screens currently under development.
Movio has appointed Gabriel Swartland head of client services for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Sarah Lewthwaite, managing director and senior vice president of Movio, EMEA, made the announcement. Swartland will report to her.
The Abu Dhabi Film Commission is set to work with one of India’s most anticipated Bollywood movies, Tiger Zinda Hai. The Yash Raj Films production will have its longest shoot in the Emirate, and will be Abu Dhabi’s longest feature film project to date with a filming schedule of 65 days.
Novo Cinemas, part of the Elan Group in Qatar, has launched a new flagship cinema at Mall of Qatar, in Al Rayyan, Doha. The new cinema features 19 screens, including an IMAX Laser theatre that features the largest IMAX screen in the MENA region and seats 530 people. It also includes an upgraded sound system featuring 12 channels plus sub bass that delivers lifelike sound from all directions, including overhead, to fill the cinema with astonishing clarity, richness, detail, and depth. Reel Cinemas has announced that it is now adding 19 Barco flagship laser projectors to its portfolio, which Barco Gold Partner CineTech ME JLT will install this year. In addition, Reel Cinemas has invested in Barco Escape, Barco’s three-screen panoramic movie theater.
Emaar Entertainment subsidiary Reel Cinemas is installing Dolby Atmos immersive audio across its entire theatre chain in the Middle East. Reel Cinemas will deploy Dolby’s latest SLS loudspeaker, including the new SLS 3-Axis Speaker MA390C, making it the first to install the system across an entire cinema circuit. The installation will be one of the largest rollouts of Dolby Atmos screens by any multiplex chain in the Middle East and will include featuring the Dolby Atmos experience at the outlet at The Dubai Mall.
Continuing its momentum of attracting regional and international productions, Abu Dhabi Film Commission has secured a new Indian production for which the capital will serve as the second filming location for two weeks. The upcoming Telgu feature film, Duvvada Jagannadham (also known as DJ), is written and directed by Harish Shankar and will shoot in various locations across the Emirate including the Abu Dhabi Global Market, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Intercontinental Hotel, Yas Links Golf Club and Galleria Mall, with access to twofour54’s production services.
Point90 Cinemas is the first major cinema multiplex in the Fifth Settlement, New Cairo, Egypt, located right in front of the American University in Cairo, inside the Point90 mall. Its aim is to offer the ultimate cinema experience to the audience, with 11 premium screen halls equipped with the latest movie projection and sound technology. As part of that effort, Point90 is installing Volfoni 3D systems.
