QSC Wins Third Teddy Award

For the third year in a row, QSC Cinema has been honored with the prestigious Teddy Award, an annual award voted by dealer members of the International Cinema Technology Association. The award recognizes the ICTA Manufacturer that best exemplifies the progressive principles of product development, and provides the dealers with service and up-to-date technical and sales information, while supporting the status of their product without qualification. The Teddy Award was presented to QSC at the recent annual ICTA Convention in Berlin, Germany.

Xinshidai MZC Cinema Installs Christie Vive Audio

Located in Benxi, in China’s Liaoning Province, Xinshidai MZC Cinema recently opened a 700-seat cineplex that consists of five halls, including a Dolby Atmos certified flagship auditorium with Christie Vive Audio in Hall 2, as well as a specially configured VIP auditorium that offers a premium movie-going experience. This is the first cinema complex in China’s northeastern region to be equipped with Christie cinema audio.

Bow Tie to Open New PLF Theatre

Bow Tie Cinemas has announced that renovations will begin after Labor Day to upgrade the Marquis 16 and Bow Tie Extreme in Trumbull, Connecticut into a Bow Tie Ultimate theater. Ultimate renovations at the Marquis will include reserved luxury recliner seating in all auditoriums, as well as the installation of Dolby Atmos premium audio presentation in their already established BTX large format experience. In addition, there will be an elevated concession program which includes expanded food and bar menu offerings.

Considering Classic Movie Sound

The Hollywood Section of SMPTE will host a demonstration of classic movie sound technology at its monthly meeting Tuesday, July 25, in Hollywood. The event will include a live performance by Joe Rinaudo, founder of the Silent Cinema Society, on an American Fotoplayer (provided by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences). The Fotoplayer is a type of player piano used in movie theaters during the silent era to provide sound effects and music.

Horse Soldiers 100th Dolby Cinema Title

Dolby Laboratories today announced that Warner Bros. Pictures’ Horse Soldiers is the 100th Dolby Cinema title. "Reaching the 100th announced title for Dolby Cinema is a tremendous accomplishment that couldn’t have been achieved without the support from the directors and filmmakers who want to use the best technology for their storytelling,” said Doug Darrow, senior vice president, cinema business group, Dolby Laboratories. “In 2017 we announced 44 Dolby Cinema titles, more than any other premium format, which is a testament to the ongoing commitment from Hollywood and studios around the world to deliver the best experience to the cinema.”

Dolby, Universal Music Celebrate Sgt. Pepper’s 50th Anniversary

Dolby Laboratories and Universal Music Group today announced special listening events for The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, remixed in Dolby Atmos at the illustrious Abbey Road Studios in London, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic album. Listening events will take place today at select cinemas in the United States and Canada.
