The Big PictureRevitalizing the Vinton Palace TheatreBy Nick Dager Vinton, Iowa is a town of some 5,000 people located on the Cedar River in the northern part of the state. In a story repeated in small towns all across the country, Vinton flourished through much of the 20th century but over the years as the importance of the family farm diminished the town began to fall on hard times. Businesses failed, people moved away and in the early 1970s, in a story also repeated in too many small towns across the country the Vinton Palace Theatre closed its doors. Today, thanks to the tireless efforts of a lot of people in the community, the theatre is a viable business again and this month it successfully premiered its first digital 3D movie. Industry Renaissance in Poland

Striving to be China’s First All-Digital Theatre Chain
Dadi Digital Cinema, a subsidiary of Dadi Culture & Media Group is China’s first fully digital cinema chain. The company has built approximately 70 cinema complexes in the Chinese Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Rim regions, with a current total of 266 screens. Deluxe Entertainment Services Group says it has achieved an industry breakthrough with the first of its kind 2K real time uncompressed data file transfer from Los Angeles to London via Deluxe Express, Deluxe's new private, secure global data service. The entire two-hour uncompressed 2K data file of 20th Century Fox's A-Team was transferred SAN to SAN from EFilm Hollywood to Deluxe Digital London in just two hours.
National Amusements Installing Sony 4K Systems

Nominations are now open for the second annual Catalyst Award to be presented during CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners, which will take place March 28-31, 2011 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. As the motion picture exhibition industry moves further into the second decade of adopting digital technology, Digital Cinema Report created the Catalyst Award to honor the independent exhibitor who best demonstrates the full capability, flexibility and promise of digital cinema. Anyone in the industry is eligible to make a nomination.
