Are You Ready to Create in 3D? Not Tomorrow. Today: Is the theme of a 3D panel to be held later this month in New York City at the upcoming Createasphere. There are now some ten thousand movie screens in mainstream theatres worldwide that are capable of showing stereoscopic 3D movies. This is creating a demand that the major Hollywood studios simply can’t satisfy. The result is a tremendous opportunity for independent filmmakers around the world and they are embracing it in growing numbers. The goal of the panel discussion, which I’m pleased to moderate, is to give independent filmmakers some real world answers to questions about shooting, editing and distributing in stereoscopic 3D.

NCM Fathom, US Figure Skating to Present Rise

NCM Fathom, the entertainment division of National CineMedia has announced an agreement with U.S. Figure Skating to present the cinematic feature Rise as part of a special in-theatre event in February. This historic evening will celebrate American figure skating, while commemorating the 50th anniversary of the February 15, 1961 plane crash in which all of the members of the United States World Figure Skating team perished.

Entertainment Technology Center Creates Stereoscopic 3D Online Resource

In response to industry and media demand, The Entertainment Technology Center at the University of Southern California has created a living, online resource dedicated to stereoscopic 3D. For the last two years the center's Consumer 3D Experience Lab has housed a world-class collection of 3D displays and demonstration materials, and has been the site of meetings and conferences related to the emerging art, technology, and business of stereoscopic 3D.

Digital Projection to Supply K Sera Sera Rollout in India

Digital Projection has won the contract to supply and install 400 projectors to K Sera Sera for a digital cinema rollout in India. The projectors are not DCI-compliant.

Close-Up Global Entertainment has distributed Russian films to the international marketplace for more than 15 years and recently the company decided to bring restoration of their classic films in-house. The company, which is housed in a 10,000 square foot warehouse in Brooklyn, New York, works with major international players including Mosfilm.

Createasphere to Feature 3D Panel September 22nd in New York

On September 22nd at the New Yorker Hotel in New York Createasphere’s Entertainment Technology Exposition will present a panel of 3D experts and will explore diverse topics including how to successfully execute artistic vision in 3D, the cinematographer and 3D, and building a viable 3D end-to-end workflow with successful post-production.
