Now preparing for its 11th edition, the DTLA Film Festival, downtown Los Angeles’ largest film-TV event, has announced a call for entries for 360º/VR/MR films for a new sidebar of immersive content, running concurrent with the rest of the festival, October 23-27. Submissions for all genres of immersive films are now open through August 16 and are free to all filmmakers. Films can be submitted through the festival's Film Freeway account.

The L.A. Dome Film Series will be co-presented by Vortex Immersion Media, and hosted at multiple locations throughout downtown Los Angeles, including Wisdome.LA, an immersive art park located in the DTLA Arts District, which includes five domes featuring VR and 360 immersive and visual experiences.

“Since establishing DTLA Film Festival 11 years ago, we have been committed to showcasing and supporting projects in new media. Building off the success of last year’s AR/VR series, we are excited to feature incredible talent taking the next step forward in immersive storytelling," said Henry K. Priest, festival co-founder.

Last year’s festival presented an immersive content series showcasing the Los Angeles premieres of more than 20 AR, VR and interactive programs. This year’s L.A. Dome Film Series expands upon the programming, allowing fans of immersive media to enjoy it in a communal, cinematic experience.

“As children, we all wondered what it would be like to jump into the TV screen. With dome immersion, you can actually share the experience like you are in the story together,” said Mark Laisure, CEO of Vortex Media.

“While many people might be familiar with the dome format through planetariums,’ said Ryan Moore, Dome Programmer, “the 2019 festival’s first-ever dome series will provide plenty of great reasons why audiences should give Immersive media a brand new look.”
