GDC Technology today announced that more than 60,000 of its cinema media servers have been shipped to customers worldwide. According to the company, more than a third of the world's cinema screens, from renowned art houses to ultra-modern multiplexes, count on GDC Technology to enable new possibilities for big screen content and experiences. GDC also announced today that its SX-4000 immersive sound media server with a built-in DTS:X decoder, and the XSP-1000 immersive cinema sound processor reached a milestone of 1,000 screens worldwide.

“When GDC was founded in 1999, my small team and I sat and watched the first product shipped in 2001, I was excited then, but I was even more excited to watch the 60,000th media server leaving the dock,” said Dr. Man-Nang Chong, founder, chairman and CEO of GDC Technology Limited.

In addition, in China GDC has delivered almost 30,000 media servers shipped since 2000, which it says represents the industry’s largest market share for a country. North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa also experienced significant growth during this same period.

"The international success of GDC is exemplified by this milestone. We take pride in helping to define the future of the cinema industry with innovative solutions,” said Dr. Chong. “Our SA and SX series played a starring role in transitioning the industry to digital cinema, but technology keeps moving forward and so did GDC with our new SR family of media servers. Our role now is to ensure filmmakers can continue to enhance their stories and think outside of the box using new techniques that ensure their product is shown as intended.”

In 2018, sixty major movies were released worldwide in the DTS:X format. Within the Asia-Pacific region, China had the highest growth rate of DTS:X installations in 2018 with more than 250 new screens.

Since its debut in July 2015, DTS:X has enjoyed worldwide adoption by major Hollywood motion picture studios, cinema owners and mixing stages. Today, more than 180 theatrical titles have been released and exhibited with a DTS:X soundtrack and more than 70 world-class mixing stages in 17 countries have installed DTS:X production tools. As a worldwide DTS:X licensee, GDC leads the effort to enhance cinematic sound around the globe.

“When it comes to providing solutions for exhibitors, GDC always strives to exceed their expectation,” added Dr. Chong. “With the rapid worldwide adoption of the GDC Immersive Sound Solution, it’s evident we delivered the right product, at the right time and at the right value proposition. Along with the expansion of screens by current customers, it’s exciting to see exhibitors in new territories installing our integrated media server with built-in DTS:X decoder.”
