Rooftop Films and Arts Brookfield will be co-presenting three free screenings on the Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place (formerly World Financial Center). The screenings will take place July 28, 29, and 30, with live musical performances preceding each of the films.

Rooftop Film and Arts Brookfield are hosting three free screenings this month. On Thursday, July 28 Animation Block Party kicks off their 13th annual festival with a collection of short films. Animation Block Party is the premier animation festival of the East Coast, drawing in huge crowds to see the world’s best new animated films. Each year, the opening night of the festival is presented outdoors in partnership with Rooftop Films. This year’s screening will feature a dozen world-renowned and independent short films.

On Friday, July 29, Rooftop Films will present a special program of short films from their vast archives. From Laura Terruso’s heartfelt portrait of Albanese Rudolph in The Last Butcher in Little Italy, to Last Address, Ira Sachs’ meditation on the exteriors of the buildings where artists were living at the time of their AIDS-related deaths, the documentary short films in The Best of New York Non-Fiction trace the dramatic changes that the city has undergone over the past two decades.

The series will conclude on July 30, with a special sneak preview screening of Patrick Shen’s In Pursuit of Silence, which explores the intrusion of noise on humankind. Sponsored by lululemon athletica, the screening will be entirely silent, with the audience members listening to the film on headphones. The event will be preceded by a guided mediation instead of live music.

All events are free and open to the public.
