New Zealand’s North Shore gets its first Digital 3D Theatre

Sky City Cinemas in New Albany, New Zealand, has opened the first digital cinema theatre on the country’s north shore.

Located in the heart of Westfield Albany, Sky City Cinemas’ Albany has 10 cinema screens including the North Shore’s first 3D digital cinema system, children’s party rooms and Time Out games area, and a licensed bar.

The 3D theatre opened with U23D and the exclusive Auckland screening of Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds.

Sky City Cinemas general manager, Matthew Liebmann says, “3D films create an amazing story-telling experience - the images are so realistic you’ll want to reach out and touch them. North Shore cinema-goers deserve that kind of technology, and the kind of luxury that only Gold Class provides.”

According to Liebmann, every seat is literally “best-in-house” in the Gold Class, which feature two dedicated theatres with 70 seats in total and a dedicated Gold Class lounge. The sections boast wall-to-wall screens and digital sound, giving guests a big-screen experience from the comfort of plush, fully reclining armchairs, along with a personal wait-service call-button for food and beverage.

The Gold Class lounge provides views over the Albany Lakes and civic park and has indoor and outdoor seating. Designed with multi-purpose use in mind, the Gold Class venue can also be booked for private events from birthday parties to corporate functions - with or without a movie.

In total Sky City Cinemas has eight mainstream theatres, including a 364-seat main screen with a screen measuring 20.45 meters by 8.70 meters. There is a combined capacity of 1,836 seats.

The lobby features a media wall showcasing the latest trailers on a 70-screen surrounded by 12 digital screens that display e-posters of current and coming films.
