In a project spanning six months, Rising Sun Pictures produced 86 visual effects shots for Animal World, the new fantasy adventure film that debuted to considerable fanfare at this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival and is currently in international release. The work drew on the full gamut of the studio’s core strengths and included everything from a card-playing creature to a loopy dream sequence, a mind-blowing car chase and a moody hero shot of Destiny, the hulking freighter-turned-floating-casino that serves as the film’s primary location.

Renegade Animation Co-Founder Ashley Postlewaite to Speak at Comic-Con

Renegade Animation co-founder and executive producer Ashley Postlewaite will take part in the panel discussion Extraordinary Women, Extraordinary Animation at Comic-Con International 2018 in San Diego. Postlewaite will join other women leaders from the animation industry in discussing how they turned their talents into successful careers. The panel will also discuss new technologies that are making it easier for young people, and especially women, to enter the field of animation.

Sound Lounge Names Liana Rosenberg Head of Production

New York’s Sound Lounge has promoted Liana Rosenberg to head of production. As a member of the management team, Rosenberg will be responsible for overseeing all production activity at the studio and supervise its team of staff producers. She will serve as a key liaison between Sound Lounge and its advertising agency and post-production house clients, and play a lead role in forecasting, budgeting and marketing.

ETC Co-Founder Elizabeth Daley to be Honored Tonight

Twenty-five years ago, when digital entertainment was nascent, filmmaker George Lucas and University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts Dean Elizabeth Daley envisioned the Entertainment Technology Center at USC to bridge the divide between technologists and filmmakers. Today, ETC@USC is celebrating a quarter century as Hollywood's premiere think tank and research center dedicated to emerging technology's impact on professional content. This evening, at its annual Studio Technology Leader's Dinner, ETC will commemorate its anniversary and honor Dean Daley with the Bob Lambert Technology Leadership Award.

NYWIFT Executive Director Lawler Stepping Down

Terry Lawler and the board of directors of New York Women in Film & Television have announced that Lawler will conclude her tenure as executive director December 31, 2018. A longtime member of NYWIFT, Lawler joined the staff as executive director in June 1997, at the start of NYWIFT’s 20th anniversary year. Under her leadership the organization has doubled its membership size, tripled its operating budget, and has spearheaded the creation of numerous innovative programs and initiatives.

IBC2018 to Hold Cyber Security Forum

IBC2018 today announced a Cyber Security Forum for broadcasters and media. The event will be part of the annual IBC show at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam September 13-18. A one-day, invitation-only event, it will convene chief technology officers, chief information officers, chief information security officers and chief digital officers within media and broadcasting for a conversation on the challenges and opportunities presented by cyber security for broadcasters.

VFX Studio Mr. Wolf Opens Vancouver Studio

Visual effects studio Mr. Wolf has opened a studio in Vancouver. The company, which also has operations in Los Angeles and New York, has hired veteran VFX producer Chad Cortvriendt to head the new outpost as executive producer. Cortvriendt is currently leading a team of artists in creating visual effects for the third season of Syfy’s horror anthology series Channel Zero.
