In-Vision Introduces New Generation of 4K Digital Cinema Lenses

In-Vision has introduced a new line of 4K DCine Visionar Cinema Lenses. The lenses comply with the guidelines of the Digital Cinema Initiative for digital cinema projection equipment and are designed for use in 2K and 4K DLP cinema projectors offered by companies such as Barco, NEC, and Christie. A spokesman for Texas Instruments says the lenses have not yet been certified by DLP Cinema but are currently under consideration for certification.
Schneider Optics Introduces DiStar+HD Lenses

Schneider Optics has introduced two new extreme wide-angle digital cinema lenses with extremely short throw ratios. The new DiStar+HD 28mm and DiStar+HD 30.8mm lenses are designed for Series II 4K Texas Instruments DLP Digital Cinema projectors by Barco, Christie and NEC.

Ray Callahan has been in the professional electronics engineering industry for 28 years. Of that, 15 years with Sony Corporation in the Broadcast, Pro Audio and Cinema manufacturing and field service divisions. In 1994, he entered the cinema industry with Sony heading up the service-engineering group and product management. In 1997 he became director of cinema products. During this period he developed the CP650 and the Dolby Digital Surround-EX. In 2000 he built the first digital cinema site as a proof-of-concept prototype for Enterprise Broadcasting in Santa Cruz, California. In 2001, he moved back to his Florida home and opened an engineering firm working solely with digital cinema and product development. I spoke via email with Callahan about some of his digital cinema experiences.

Based in Dortmund, Germany, Woodman-Rohde has been specializing in building multiplex cinemas for more than 20 years. Woodman-Rohde has developed and built several Palace cinemas in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, handling all architecture and project management work.
Comparing Film and 4K Side by Side

The Digital Cinema Symposium presented by D3D Cinema and Moody Gardens held in Galveston, Texas last January marked the first time that 4K digital and 70mm film projectors were set up in a side-by-side comparison to assess and compare the qualities of each format and technology.
