Dolby Supports Toronto Film Festival

Dolby Laboratories provided a suite of Dolby technologies and services last month’s Toronto International Film Festival, which was held September 8 to 18, 2011, including Dolby Digital Cinema, Dolby 3D, the Dolby Professional Reference Monitor, and Dolby surround sound, among other encoding and decoding systems.

Once again the National Association of Broadcasters convention is centered in the Las Vegas Convention Center, this year from April 9-14. And, once again, the gathering, which gets bigger every year, promises to be exciting, informative and almost certainly a bit overwhelming. More than 90,000 attendees are expected from more than 150 countries. They’ll be attending a dozen conferences and training sessions and visiting more than 1,500 exhibits spread out over the 800,000 square feet of the massive convention center. Last year’s hottest topic was 3D and that will certainly be the case this year. Look for significant refinements to most of the products that debuted in 2010. The other story is what hasn’t made headlines in recent months and never will because a lot of serious 3D developments are happening behind the scenes.

Harman Professional has announced that it will supply technology for this season’s Sundance Institute Labs Feature Film Program that takes place from June through September at the Sundance Institute in Provo, Utah. Reservoir Dogs, Boys Don’t Cry and Requiem For A Dream are just a few of the now-classic movies that had their starts at the Sundance Institute Labs Feature Film Program, which every year nurtures a select group of aspiring filmmakers in a workshop environment where they are mentored by some of the best minds in the film industry.
Previewing NAB 2010

Very few, if any, people working in the motion picture industry today continue to believe that stereoscopic 3D is a fad that will soon run its course. The recent successes of the live-action blockbusters Avatar and Alice in Wonderland have shown that audience understand that 3D offers a more exciting visual experience and they’ve so far been quite willing to pay extra movie for the privilege. The challenge for filmmakers now is to learn the techniques and technology that make stereoscopic 3D possible and a good place to start is the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters convention that is being held April 10-15 in Las Vegas.

Wildlife videographer Terry Shiels has recently completed another episode of the ongoing award-winning television series, The Zoo Filez, which is seen by over 400,000 viewers each week and is carried by ten broadcast stations and two cable systems across North Carolina.
