Young Animator of the Year UK Award Winners Named

The winners of this year’s Young Animator of the Year UK award have been announced by Access:VFX, the ScreenSkills Animation Fund and #Dami. Through its awards program, YAY UK aims to provide aspiring animators from a range of backgrounds with access to and advice from professionals and studios in the animation, games and visual effects industry. The winning work will premiere at the Manchester Animation Festival, which runs November 14-19.

Oregon Museum of Science & Industry to Feature Laika Films

Laika, whose five films (Missing Link, Kubo and the Two Strings, The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman and Coraline) have all received Oscar nominations for Best Animated Film, will partner with the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry for multiple screenings of all its films as well as filmmaker discussions and a display of puppets and sets this October.

Laika Begins Production on Wildwood

Laika’s next animated feature film is Wildwood, based on the bestselling novel written by Colin Meloy, lead singer and songwriter for The Decemberists, and illustrated by artist Carson Ellis. The announcement was made by Travis Knight, president & CEO of the award-winning animation studio, who will direct the film. Wildwood is currently in production at Laika’s facility outside Portland, Oregon.

A Survival Story

The Tattooed Torah, now available for screening on the USC Shoah Foundation’s IWitness website, is an animated short based on the children’s book by Marvell Ginsburg. Like the book, the film is meant to educate children about the Holocaust through the true story of a small Torah that was confiscated by the Nazis during World War II yet miraculously survived.

Animation Company Laika Expands into Live Action with Seventeen

The award-winning animation company Laika known for such films as Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and Missing Link, is expanding into live action. The studio has optioned Seventeen, the upcoming first novel by acclaimed screenwriter John Brownlow (The Minaturist, Sylvia). Currently in production on its sixth animated feature film, Laika secured the rights in an intense bidding war and plans to adapt it as a live action project. The announcement was made by Laika president and CEO Travis Knight.

Laika Names Park Circus to be Repertory Sales Representative

Award-winning animation studio Laika has named Park Circus to be the repertory sales representative for the studio’s award-winning library of legacy films. The BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning Laika is best known for its five Oscar-nominated films:  Missing Link (2019); Kubo and the Two Strings (2016); The Boxtrolls (2014); ParaNorman (2012), and Coraline (2009). The agreement covers most international territories in addition to the United States and Canada.
