For many years, Netflix has allowed teachers to screen documentaries in their classrooms. However, this isn’t possible with schools closed in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. In response to the situation, Netflix has made a selection of their documentary features and series available for free on the Netflix US YouTube channel.
With its annual April trade show in Las Vegas cancelled in the wake of the pandemic, the National Association of Broadcasters in its place is offering a new digital experience. The NAB Show Express will take place May 13-14 free of charge and will include a Future of Cinema track produced in partnership with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
Due to the ongoing public health impacts of the COVID-19, National CineMedia will hold its annual stockholders meeting in a virtual meeting format. The meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. MDT on April 28 at NCM headquarters in Centennial, Colorado. Stockholders will not be able to attend in person.

A Night at the Movies, a four-consecutive Friday night live-stream of movies which kicks off tonight with The Hunger Games on the distributor’s YouTube page and Fandango’s Movieclips YouTube page.

The film, from Iranian director Mohammed Rasoulof, faced serious and unique challenges getting onto the big screen at a film festival. First, there was the fact that Rasoulof is unable to leave Iran.
The Movie Studio, a vertically integrated motion picture production company, has signed a licensing agreement with FilmHub, an online marketplace for film creators and streaming services. Per the agreement, The Movie Studio will license FilmHub’s catalog for viewing on The Movie Studio App, which is available on Google Play and the App Store. The Movie Studio will also license its catalog to FilmHub for distribution via its online film marketplace.

Short-form streaming-video platform Quibi provides premium content specifically designed for consumption on a mobile device. This presented the production of its first scripted show, Dummy, with a unique set of creative and workflow issues. In addition to the standard 16:9 aspect ratio, director of photography Catherine Goldschmidt had to create visuals for a vertically oriented 9:16 presentation.
Yvan Lucas is a veteran digital intermediate colorist with a unique international story. His career spans over 30 years, has involved working in 10 different labs, and has included creative collaborations with a long list of iconic cinematographers such as Robert Richardson, Darius Khondji and Rodrigo Prieto. Lucas credits the work he did with Khondji and director Jean-Pierre Jeunet – especially on the films Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children – for launching his international career and leading him to Los Angeles.
