Photo by Paul Kolnik. To enhance the Lincoln Center at the Movies experience for audiences of all ages, Lincoln Center Education has created interactive guides to accompany screenings of the Great American Dance series.  Presented by Lincoln Center in association with Fathom Events, Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance brings spectacular dance performances by four of America’s leading dance companies to approximately 600 movie theaters throughout the U.S. in the fall and winter of 2015.  The on-screen hosts for the series are Live with Kelly and Michael stars Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. The series opened on September 24 with San Francisco Ballet’s Romeo & Juliet.

The guides are tailored for various audiences for use by elementary school teachers, middle school teachers, high school teachers, families with children, after-school programs, and life-long learners. The guides use videos, readings, images, and participatory activities to provide information about each company and work, including historical context, music, choreography, and design, to encourage discussion prior to and after seeing the performance.

The guide for the upcoming screening of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, October 22, is available now, as is the guide for San Francisco Ballet’s Romeo & Juliet (screened September 24). Guides for Ballet Hispanico, November 12, and New York City Ballet, December 5 and 10, will be available prior to each screening.

Tickets for Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance screenings are available at FathomEvents.com and at participating theater box offices. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participating box offices are subject to change).

Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance programs are taped in HD by the multi-Emmy Award-winning team responsible for Live From Lincoln Center broadcasts on PBS, led by Andrew C. Wilk, executive producer. Each screening includes extra on-screen features such as interviews with the companies’ principal dancers and informative segments that will provide an inside look at the productions. Lincoln Center at the Movies brings the best of the performing arts to national audiences through Fathom’s extensive network of movie theaters and will focus on the different art forms on Lincoln Center’s campus.

Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance is made possible by Founding Partners Jody and John Arnhold and the Howard Gilman Foundation.
