Ascent 142’s First DI Project is Quantum of Solace Quantum of Solace the latest James Bond movie which was released in U.S. theaters last month was the first digital intermediates project for London-based Ascent 142. Stephen Nakamura vice president of features for Company 3 an Ascent Media business graded the film at Ascent 142 on a da Vinci Resolve R-350. Ascent 142 is the result of the merger between Ascent Media's One Post St. Anne's Post Stream and Wardour Street's Media Management services facilities. The 60 000-square-foot facility features two new state-of-the-art DI theatres. In addition to feature films Ascent 142 offers comprehensive services for television DVD and content management. In Ascent's DI workflow content is scanned on an ArriScan film scanner and ingested to a BrightDrive shared media system that is linked to the Resolve R-350s for nonlinear color grading and image enhancement. With the da Vinci R-350s we are able to achieve the most advanced DI workflow with the highest quality grading possible says Adrian Bull chief technology officer for Ascent Media Group Europe. But the advantages go well beyond color grading. So many of our projects now require international collaboration and these new facilities align us perfectly with our Santa Monica and Hollywood California operations. With a private 2.5 gigabit circuit connecting us to America we are able to offer an unparalleled transatlantic service. The Ascent 142 name may be brand new but its creative and business DNA are very powerful says Dean Lyon da Vinci's director of marketing. The individual companies that now comprise Ascent Media have for years been a force driving the creative and technological advances in London's leading post scene. With two new R-350s as key components of the facility's new DI theaters and workflow Ascent is continuing that tradition. Da Vinci Systems www.davsys.com
