MTI Film will debut the latest version of its dailies and media management software Cortex next month during the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas. New features include IMF deliveries, dead pixel correction, Dolby Vision, 4K up-resing and editing, as well as many UI improvements. Originally conceived as a streamlined dailies processing application, Cortex has developed into an end-to-end solution for managing media from the set through delivery.
Italian/UK digital media workflow specialist Kiwii Digital Solutions recently managed the production dailies of the new movie Tini: The Big Change in Violetta using the WCPApp from WCPMedia Services. The cloud-based platform made it possible to deliver dailies and other media from the film’s set in Italy to its editorial team in Spain virtually instantaneously, saving significant time and costs.
The Association of Moving Image Archivists has announced May 4 as the date for the New York outing of its annual Digital Asset Symposium, a day of engaging and educational discussions on the most current challenges and breakthroughs in managing digital assets. This year the event will be held at the Victor Borge Theatre in Manhattan.
The Walk feature film, Atomic Fiction’s digital recreation of 1974 New York City—complete with hot dogs steaming on a vendor cart—earned the praise of critics who proclaimed the movie “a visual spectacle” with effects “so grand it’s easy to forget you’re watching a virtual 100 percent CG-created world.” Less visible but equally important to filmmaker clients is the studio’s behind-the-scenes production artistry. Intertrust Technologies Corporation has added session-based video watermarking capabilities from Civolution’s NexGuard to its ExpressPlay Digital Rights Management (DRM) service. NexGuard watermarking technology allows copyright holders to identify the source of unauthorized distribution even after a movie leaves the encrypted digital domain of a DRM system. The accountability provided by NexGuard session-based watermarking has already proven effective in reducing the volume of video piracy, and will be a key aspect of content protection as the distribution of streaming video increases globally. ExpressPlay using Marlin DRM is currently the leading video DRM in rapidly growing markets such as China.
