Bullet Train’s a Hit; Now What?
The worldwide launch of Bullet Train across 58 markets topped the global box office chart and many local ones this past weekend, but the continued success of local titles finding space in a quieter global release schedule grabbed the headlines, according to the latest report from the London-based analytics firm Gower Street. The report goes on to say that the challenge for exhibitors is how to sustain this momentum with an upcoming slate of films that don’t appear to be as strong as the summer films have proven to be.
DCDC to Pay Rebates to Exhibitor, Content Partners
The Digital Cinema Distribution Coalition has announced that it will once again pay rebates to all its customers based on their continued use and support of the network. DCDC first provided rebates in March 2020 after paying back its founding investors (AMC Theatres, Cinemark Theatres, Regal Entertainment Group, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros.) their initial investments in full.
Roxy Cinemas Installing Middle East’s Biggest Screen
The movie theatre chain Roxy Cinemas in the Dubai Hills Mall is installing what it says is the Middle East’s biggest ever cinema screen. The company says the screen measures 423 square meters, which is twice the size of a tennis court.

GDC Technology Limited announced today that the company will showcase its latest products at Big Cine Expo 2022, an interactive and value-added platform for theatre owners, equipment manufacturers, system integrators and the user community for single-screen and multiplex cinema entertainment in Asia and India. Big Cine Expo will take place August 16-17 at the Chennai Trade Center.
Backlot Cinema Opening in Blackpool
The Backlot Cinema in Blackpool, England, will be the anchor tenant of the Phase 2 extension of Houndshill Shopping Centre, an indoor shopping mall in the heart of the town. The theatre will have nine screens with a total of 850 luxury seats.
