CAN Film is a boutique post-production and film company based in the heart of Gothenburg, Sweden. Clas Hakeröd and Nikolai Waldman, two highly experienced and trusted names within the industry, started the company in 2015. For the past 20 years they have been producing and post-producing commercials, features, corporate films, documentaries and TV series, like The girl who played with fire, Olympic Games, Saltön, Ettor & nollor, Americas Cup, Uppdrag Granskning, Volvo, IKEA and many more. Recently, Waldman branched out to start the company DejaSoft and develop the editing software tool DejaEdit. Digital Cinema Report spoke with him about how DejaEdit came to be.
Film editor Rickard Krantz was part of the creative team that worked on the movie The Perfect Patient (Swedish title: Quick), which was nominated for Sweden’s prestigious Guldbagge award for editing. This year at Sundance, more films than ever have been created with Adobe Premiere Pro, making Adobe the most used editing software at the festival for the second year in a row, based on an official Sundance survey. The majority of films (56 percent) chose Premiere Pro for editorial software.

Red Digital Cinema has released its Red R3D SDK and accompanying RedCine-X Pro software with accelerated decode and debayering on Nvidia CUDA platforms. By offloading the compute-intensive decoding and debayering of Red R3D files onto one or more Nvidia GPUs, the company says that real-time playback, edit and color grade of 8K footage is now possible.

To give the film First Man a strong sense of authenticity, director Damien Chazelle approached NASA to see if there was any archive footage from the Apollo era. The answer was they did but the footage was all in an obsolete format.
The Motion Picture Sound Editor will honor Antoine Fuqua with its annual Filmmaker Award. The director of such films as The Equalizer (1 & 2), The Magnificent Seven, Southpaw and Training Day, is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the art of cinema. He will receive the award at the 66th MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony February 17th in Los Angeles.
