Considering Post Before Production

Still Devout is a new AFI Thesis film written and directed by Melissa Perez, which follows the story of a young woman who embarks on a heart-wrenching journey to help find answers and healing for her brother’s mental illness. To help optimize the film’s production workflow in preparation for post-production, Perez met with Burbank-based AlphaDogs for a personalized post consultation before the film was shot.

PostWorks Digital Cinema Sees Growth

Last July PostWorks New York announced that it had formed a new digital film distribution service, PostWorks Digital Cinema, and hired industry veteran Greg Fornero to lead it. The plan was to work with indie film producers and distributors, international film festivals and independent digital intermediate facilities to provide digital cinema package duplication, drive set rentals and sales, KDM management and broadband content delivery services. To get a progress report on the new service I recently visited the PostWorks’ facility in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood to meet with senior vice president for theatrical services Clark Henderson.

Wildlife Begins Filming in Oklahoma

June Pictures and Nine Stories, in association with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office, has begun principal photography in Oklahoma on the feature film Wildlife. Paul Dano will bring Richard Ford’s American classic Wildlife to the screen, marking his directorial debut. Academy Award nominees Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan are starring in this period drama.

Horror Specialists Launch $50 Million Fund

Indie Crowd Funder, in conjunction with Daniel Myrick (DGA/WGA) director, writer, producer (The Blair Witch Project), Shintaro Shimosawa, (DGA) director, writer, producer (The Grudge, The Grudge 2), Randy Greenberg, executive producer (Cowboys & Aliens, Meg), producer Autumn Bailey-Ford (PGA), have announced the launch of a new film, television, new media and virtual reality fund.

New Life for Postpartum

Richard Bakewell, best known for his camerawork on such television shows as Cops and Intervention, recently penned his second film. To create a proof-of-concept and short film based on an ‘80s throwback horror-genre feature-length screenplay Postpartum, he took the helm as director and executive producer.

RoboDoc Examines Classic Movie

A fan-funded documentary, which examines the legacy of one of Hollywood’s best-loved action movie franchises is being made by a University of Northampton, United Kingdom, graduate. Filmmaker Christopher Griffiths, who graduated from the Media Production degree course in 2013, raised £34,000 on the Kickstarter funding platform to make RoboDoc, which explores the making and legacy of the RoboCop franchise.

Seattle South Asian Film Festival Winners Named

The 11th Seattle South Asian Film Festival closed Sunday with a screening of the tender comedic drama Waiting (2015) from Indian director Anu Menon (London Paris New York, X: Past is Present). Short filmmaker Saad Khan was on site to talk about his short film Brother, Omar Mateen (2016), which engages with the intersection of sexuality, religion, and extremism in the aftermath of the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting. After a filmmaker Q&A and before the festive Closing Night Gala that followed, the SSAFF 2016 Audience Awards in three categories were announced.
