The Institut fuer Rundfunktechnik’s IMF analyzer is now available. With the IMF Analyzer 2018, IRT presents the new version of its professional analyzer software for the Interoperable Master Format in the file-based production process. Initiated by the Hollywood film industry and video-on-demand platforms such as Netflix, the IMF standard of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers is becoming increasingly important in the exchange of audiovisual content.
Interoperable Master Format
WCPMedia Services has joined the Digital Production Partnership. In joining the media industry’s business change network, WCPMedia is lending its support to the DPP’s mission to encourage the development of a fully digital, global and internet-enabled supply chain for broadcast media.
SMPTE today announced that it will be working with the Digital Production Partnership on a joint pilot specification project to create an Interoperable Master Format specification for broadcast and online.
IRT has released its first IMF Analyzer 1.0 for quality control and management in the file-based production process. The Interoperable Master Format is the new standard by SMPTE for storing, exchanging and delivering A/V productions. IMF defines a package, which contains, among other, different MXF files for audio, video, subtitle and metadata.

Japanese video production service company Assist Corporation is one of the first in the world to install Iris 2.0 from GrayMeta. Reona Kobayashi, Assist’s director of engineering said, “Technology in the Japanese television and film industries moves quickly, and upgrading to Iris 2.0 is keeping us ahead of the trends.”
Iris, Archimedia’s suite of software applications designed to speed file workflow, can now play Interoperable Master Format complex files. These files are rapidly becoming a preferred format for motion pictures because they dramatically reduce the number of file versions film studios need to send out. Archimedia CEO Mark Gray said, “We are proud to introduce an upgrade to Iris that makes it the world’s first software media player for IMF complex files. Now that IMF is gaining traction in the OTT and video on demand television markets its use is sure to increase.”
