Sony Pictures' Ghostbusters: Afterlife is screening in CJ 4DPlex’s immersive 270-degree panoramic format ScreenX. The film opens today in the United States and continues its global theatrical release this week.
Megabox, the third largest cinema chain in South Korea, has chosen Christie Digital Systems’ RGB pure laser projection systems for the flagship Megabox Coex multiplex located in Seoul’s upscale Gangnam district, as well as several multiscreen cinemas in major cities across the country.
IMAX and Strong/MDI Screen Systems have partnered to build a record breaking-screen at the Traumpalast Multiplex in Leonberg, Germany. Covering a 574-seat IMAX auditorium, the Strong/MDI screen is an impressive 69 feet high and 125 feet wide and weighs more than 500 pounds, another IMAX record. It was manufactured in Joliette, Canada and coated on site by Strong/MDI professionals due to its massive measurements.
Cinionic today announced an expanded four-year exclusive agreement with B&B Theatres, the sixth largest exhibitor in the U.S., with nearly 500 screens across 55 locations. Under the new agreement, Cinionic will serve as the exclusive projection technology partner for B&B Theatres, providing Barco Series 4 and Cinionic Giant Screen laser projectors, to enhance B&B’s large format Grand Screen to experience.
MGM Studios and Eon Productions announced today that No Time To Die will be releasing in CJ 4DPlex’s immersive 270-degree panoramic ScreenX for the first time. The 25th Bond film will release from September 30 through Universal Pictures International and in the U.S on October 8 through MGM via their United Artists Releasing banner.
CJ 4DPlex and AmazeVR have formed a partnership to source the work of leading artists and secure talent to develop innovative immersive music experiences. The goal of this collaboration is to create immersive shows that will be created and distributed for ScreenX showings and movie theaters, particularly those with 4DX.
In what its organizers are billing as a groundbreaking film festival event, the first annual Dome Fest West will take place October 8-10 at the Orange Coast College Planetarium in Costa Mesa, California. Dome Fest West is 360-degree film festival and conference that will bring together the filmmaking community, Hollywood filmmakers and up-and-coming immersive content creators.
According to industry statistics, premium large format screen installations have seen an increase of almost 19 percent year over year. They set a record in 2019, when 734 screens were installed, a 65 percent increase over 2018. As theatres slowly reopen worldwide following lockdowns due to COVID-19, the pace of adoption is expected to resume. Owned by the China Film Group and Huaxia Film Distribution, Cinity uses premium large format laser projection, immersive sound, and ultra-high frame rate capability. Today, with 57 installations and an almost equal number on tap in cities across China, Cinity enjoys cooperative agreements with many major Hollywood and Chinese studios. The system can be viewed at the Harmony Gold Preview House in West Hollywood, where filmmakers can also screen their latest projects at the industry’s highest frame rate.
PVR Cinemas has installed Cinionic’s Giant Screen technology in its flagship site in Priya, India. The move comes as part of an urban rehabilitation initiative by PVR of its heritage location providing audiences thrilling cinematic experiences combined with the latest in premium cinema amenities and innovation. Priya’s new premium P[XL] auditorium powered by CGS, has a 19-meter (62-foot) giant screen, and features the latest laser projection. The PVR P[XL] at Priya is the first powered by CGS cinema in India.
Leading Russian cinema operator Karo will open ten Karo: New Generation locations with developer ADG over the next 10 months, with the first to open on November 15. Another six locations are slated to open by the end of the year. The remaining Karo: New Generation multiplexes will open in Russian regional cities — in collaboration with other real estate partners — beginning in the second quarter of 2022, with further large-scale expansion planned through 2024.
