SMPTE Elevates 16 to Fellow Status

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has announced that this year — the Society's centennial year — it will elevate 16 industry leaders to the status of SMPTE Fellow. This honor is conferred on individuals who have, through their proficiency and contributions to the industry, attained an outstanding rank among members of the Society. Chad Cortvriendt, Graeme Marshall Join FuseFX Vancouver

FuseFX, Vancouver, has hired VFX producers Chad Cortvriendt and Graeme Marshall both of whom bring lengthy experience in the Canadian visual effects industry and credits spanning television, features, advertising and other media. The two producers are working with teams creating visual effects for series such as Legion, Dark Matter and Zoo.

The Mill Blackbird Wins HPA Creativity and Innovation Award

The Hollywood Professional Association has awarded its prestigious Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation to The Mill Blackbird. Created by The Mill, the Blackbird is the first fully adjustable car rig that creates photorealistic CG cars. The coveted honor will be bestowed November 17, 2016 at the 11th annual HPA Awards gala at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California.

SmallHD Releases Free Firmware Upgrade

During SMPTE 2016, conference sessions will feature industry experts from around the world, who will present 73 papers exploring timely, compelling topics that are shaping the field of motion imaging.

Roundabout Restores Zeffirelli’s Romeo & Juliet

Roundabout Entertainment recently collaborated with Paramount Pictures and Park Circus on a luminous, 4K-restoration of Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 classic Romeo and Juliet. The restored film is currently enjoying a new theatrical run as part of Shakespeare Lives, a worldwide program of special events commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death. The project was made possible through funding from the British Council and the British Film Institute.

Four TIFF Films Supported by LipSync Post
