With the astounding popularity of the animated feature films from Paris-based Illumination Mac Guff, it would seem the whole world already knows about the secret lives of pets and the villainous plots of Gru and his goggle-eyed minions. But few moviegoers—or even the studio’s own digital artists—would guess the inner workings of the production systems behind the stories.
Award-winning production studio Jellyfish Pictures today announced that it has launched a subsidiary business called RenderWise. Responding to the obstacles faced when met with time sensitive demands, RenderWise offers cloud hybrid rendering and virtual studio solutions for VFX and animation applications.
Platige Image has created cinematics for AAA games and commercials for Coca-Cola. It's produced viral teasers for the European Space Agency's Rosetta mission and visual effects for Lars von Trier's Antichrist. It's won two BAFTAs, and has been nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Palm at Cannes, and a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. And for the last five years the Polish animation and visual effects house has relied on Pipeline FX’s Qube render farm management system. “It's impossible to count how many shots we've rendered through Qube,” says Platige lighting artist Krzysztof Dębski. “It must be in the hundreds of thousands.”

Digital District has acquired Pipeline FX’s Qube! software to manage linked render farms from China to Paris.
Justin and the Knights of Valour tells the story of a young boy who becomes a man as he embarks on a quest to become a knight. Directed and written by Kandor Graphics' chief creative officer, Manuel Sicilia, the animated adventure fantasy film boasts a famous cast of European voices including Freddie Highmore, Charles Dance, Rupert Everett, Barry Humphries, David Walliams, Julie Walters and Saoirse Ronan. Antonio Banderas, who is a Kandor Graphics partner, is also the voice of character Sir Clorex, as well as producer of the film along with Marcelino Almansa, Kerry Fulton and Ralph Kamp.
Lightworks has released Lightworks Author 9, which is designed to give users more control and power at every stage of the rendering process.
