Supercines Installs Ecuador’s First Laser Projectors

Supercines, Ecuador’s leading cinema chain, has opened a new eight-screen multiplex in the Ambato shopping mall equipped with Christie Vive Audio and Christie RGB pure laser cinema projectors, the first of their kind in the country. The multiplex lobby also uses 60 Christie Access LCD panels to advertise upcoming movies and promotions.

QSC Names Chan Senior Director, North Asia; Promotes Two Others

William Chan has joined QSC as senior director, North Asia, reporting to Markus Winkler, senior vice president Asia and EMEA. In this newly created role, Chan is responsible for sales and business operations in the North Asia region, including a focus on driving new revenue growth in Greater China and Japan for QSC’s live sound, cinema, and systems portfolios.

DTS Releases DTS:X Immersive Audio Bitstream Software Development Kit

This week DTS released its DTS:X Immersive Audio Bitstream software development kit to its cinema partners. The company believes the move strengthens its position as the motion picture industry creates the interoperable IAB content and device ecosystem needed to provide a true immersive sound experience in theatres.

Rethinking a Movie Theatre

Combining one of the oldest architectural designs in the Western world – the amphitheatre – with some of the most advanced motion picture exhibition technology available today may sound like a great idea for a new movie theatre. Applying that concept to an existing theatre, though, makes the challenge seem truly daunting. But that’s exactly what happened when B&B Theatres acquired an old movie house in Overland Park, Kansas and set about the work of making it their own. The result is the world’s second largest ScreenX auditorium and its first ScreenX Amphitheatre, complete with a unique approach to the DTS:X sound system.

Jinyi Cinemas, Jiaxing, China Opens Country’s 2,000th Dolby Atmos Screen

Dolby and Guangzhou Jinyi Media Corporation, owner of Jinyi Cinemas, one of the largest cinema circuits in China, today announced the opening of the 2,000th Dolby Atmos cinema screen in China at Jinyi Cinemas Jiaxing site. Jinyi has established its presence in more than 60 cities across China, such as Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Suzhou, and Wuhan, with more than 170 self-owned cinemas, in which 88 screens are equipped with Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos has become the largest premium format in China by screen count, according to the latest statistics from EntGroup Inc.

Lido Cinema Upgrades its Sound System

Established in the 1920s, the Lido Cinema in Auckland is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most prestigious cinemas. Originally opened as a single-screen art house cinema, the Lido expanded with a second 44-seat capacity theater known as The Lounge in 2005. The Lido recently decided to upgrade the aging 5.1 sound system in The Lounge.

Sree Kalidas M-Plex Installs Christie Projection, ViveAudio

Sree Kalidas M-Plex has become the first cinema complex in the southern Indian state of Kerala to install cinema projectors featuring Christie RealLaser illumination and ViveAudio. Located in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram, the newly completed multiplex has seven auditoriums. Christie’s Indian partner TSR handled the installation.

B&B Theatres Opens Worlds First ScreenX Amphitheater

CJ 4DPlex, together with B&B Theatres, have launched the world’s first ScreenX Amphitheater in Overland Park, Kansas inside B&B Overland Park 16. The newly arranged auditorium, which marks the second largest ScreenX theater in the world will open with Warner Bros. Pictures’ It Chapter Two on Friday, September 6th.
