Barco will complete a widespread deployment of 1,800 Barco DLP Cinema projectors for Cinemex across Mexico by December. With the Cinemex deal, Barco’s Latin American market share in digital cinema will grow to more than 70 percent. The world’s sixth largest cinema chain cited Barco’s local service and parts infrastructure as key factors in the decision.

Barco maintains eight parts depots in Latin America, providing 24/7/365 onsite technical support through local service teams. In addition, Barco’s installation and advanced service certification training is available in Mexico City, Mexico and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

“Barco has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to our operations, providing local resources and resident Barco Mexico teams focused on meeting our digital cinema needs quickly and completely,” a Cinemex spokesman said. “We can see evidence of their commitment at every level: from in-country parts depots, managed services around the clock, to local certification training in our native language, Barco is doing everything possible to ensure our success.”

“We always believed Mexico is a strategic frontier for digital cinema in the region and we significantly scaled up our local infrastructure investments three to four years ago in anticipation of these large deployments, based on our confidence in Mexico, Central and South America,” said Ivan Cannau, country director for Barco Mexico.

“Latin America means a great deal to us as a company, and our commitment to the region presents wonderful opportunities for our exhibitors who are ready to embrace digital cinema,” said Ney Corsino, vice president Latin America for Barco. “We look forward to supporting Cinemex’ digital cinema expansion as well as partnering with other theater circuits in the region to offer our trademark brightest projectors and top-notch support.”

Barco’s investment in Latin America has evolved from a strong presence in Brazil where it has maintained a local office for more than 15 years, with locations established in Mexico and Colombia. Barco has said it will match the projected growth of cinemas in the region with additional service staff and parts locations as needed.
