As part of its exhibit at the Consumer Electronics Show taking place this week in Las Vegas, CJ 4DPlex unveiled the prototype of ultra-wide zoom lens projection technology that the company is currently exploring to help existing movie theatres reconfigure their auditoriums and enable them to install bigger screens.

The lens is capable of reducing the projection distance up to 70 person; bringing down the throw ratio from 1.8:1 to 0.55:1 ~ 0.7:1.The lens is capable of reducing the projection distance up to 70 person; bringing down the throw ratio from 1.8:1 to 0.55:1 ~ 0.7:1. With this lens, movie exhibitors would be able to take full advantage of their rectangular-shaped auditoriums by turning the existing layouts of the theatres sideways and applying premium large format screens to what was the longer sidewall of the auditorium turning it into the main screen.

The company stressed that there is no timetable set for bringing the lens to market and that the lens is still in the development stage. The company is also undecided as to whether they will show the lens at CinemaCon 2020 this coming March and April in Las Vegas. For now, the company is exploring the lens’ possibilities and discussing it with existing partners.
