Digiplex Destinations has announced its upcoming schedule of opera performances on digital cinema screens. The performers are all from world-class companies including The Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and Spain's Liceu.

Digiplex's 2013 - 2014 season of opera on screen includes perennial favorites spanning many eras and styles of music from Mozart's Classical The Magic Flute and Bizet's romantic Carmen to striking innovative works of the twentieth century such as Shostakovich's The Nose and Dvorak's folklore-based Rusalka.

"Every year, we've discovered that our patrons' appetite for innovative alternative programming has increased and opera on screen has been particularly successful," says Digiplex chairman and CEO Bud Mayo. "Over the past two years, we have expanded the series from two to seventeen locations and frequently experience sell-out crowds. Groups of fans are discovering each other at every theater and turning the schedule into an opportunity to socialize and enjoy entertainment as a community with common interests. At one Digiplex location last year, a retired college professor had an impromptu conversation with a few audience members that has morphed into regular group discussions before or after presentations as well as a lively online discussion group. Similar stories from around the country reinforce my belief that transforming movie theaters into digital entertainment centers is creating an exciting and lively new business model."
