Newton, Massachusetts based technology provider Talamas is holding a seminar conducted by audio specialist David Missall on the best practices in recording sound for a wide range of motion picture productions including sports, news, digital cinema, or even a wedding.

In this seminar Missall will cover microphone basics, demonstrate microphone pickup patterns, booming techniques, shotgun microphones, when to use a lapel microphone, the best interview microphone, as well as wireless microphone applications and tips and tricks for eliminating unwanted noise during production.

The seminar will be held at Talamas’ new 1,400-square-foot meeting space at their Newton, Massachusetts, facility from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 20. There will be a break with light refreshments. It will also include the setup of a mock film scene, during which the results will be recorded and played back to cement the concepts covered earlier in the day and provide participants with an experience that will illustrate the benefits of the information provided.

Missal is an expert in the field of RF wireless technology. As manager of technical service and market development for Sennheiser, he consults prominent news and sports broadcasters, theaters and live music stages on multi-channel wireless installations and audio applications.

Among others, he has provided audio solutions and troubleshooting support for CNN, ESPN, NBC Studios, Fox Sports, Speed Channel, Univision, WWE and Turner Sports. An over 25-year veteran of the professional audio industry, Missal has worked on various film and TV productions as technical advisor for audio and RF design.
