Columbia Pictures’ Harold and the Purple Crayon is a live action/animation hybrid adaptation of Crockett Johnson’s beloved children’s classic about a boy who can make anything come to life simply by drawing it. After Harold grows up and draws himself off the book’s pages and into the physical world, he finds he has a lot to learn about real life—and that his trusty purple crayon may set off more hilarious hijinks than he thought possible.

Devotion, the new film from Black Label Media, distributed by Columbia Pictures, and based on Adam Makos bestselling book of the same name, tells the inspirational, true story of two elite US Navy pilots who helped turn the tide in the most brutal battle of the Korean War. Through their heroic sacrifices and enduring friendship, Jesse Brown, the first Black aviator in US Navy history, and fellow fighter pilot, Tom Hudner, became the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen. Directed by JD Dillard and written by Jake Crane and Jonathan A. H. Stewart, the film stars Jonathan Majors, Glen Powell, Christina Jackson, Joe Jonas, and Thomas Sadoski.

Peter Rabbit’s Sound Team Returns

Currently in worldwide release from Columbia Pictures, director Will Gluck’s Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is the charming sequel to the 2018 hit about a bunny who’s a loveable rogue. Much of the creative team from the first film reunited for the new movie, including its award-winning sound team led by re-recording mixer Kevin O’Connell, supervising sound editor Robert Mackenzie and re-recording mixer/supervising Andy Wright.

Sony Pictures Adds Dubbing Stage

Responding to the growing popularity of home theater systems with immersive sound, Sony Pictures Post Production Services has added a new mix stage dedicated to next-generation home theater audio formats. Located on the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, the new stage is designed to simulate a home theater environment and equipped to master feature film and television projects in Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D and other immersive sound formats. This new room has been used to prepare several feature titles for Blu-ray Disc, 4K Ultra HD Disc, and digital delivery.

Crafting the Sounds of Southpaw

One of Hollywood’s most gifted action directors, Antoine Fuqua explores the rarified violence of the boxing ring in his latest film Southpaw, released this month by The Weinstein Company. The director’s visceral boxing imagery is supported by a meticulously crafted soundtrack, created by a team from Sony Pictures Post Production Services led by supervising sound editor Mandell Winter, sound designer David Esparza and re-recording mixers Steve Pederson and Daniel J. Leahy.
