David Barber Named President of the Motion Picture Sound Editors

The Motion Picture Sound Editors trade group has elected David Barber, MPSE, to a two-year term as president. Barber succeeds Mark Lanza, MPSE, who reached his term limit. Additionally, Miguel Araujo was re-elected as secretary, while Eric Marks was appointed to fill Barber’s previous post as vice president on an interim basis until the next board election in October. Chris Reeves and Solange Schwalbe continue in their roles as treasurer and sergeant at arms, respectively.

Filming The 1619 Project

Cinematographer Jerry Henry’s Emmy nomination for the sixth and final episode (Justice) of the Hulu Original TV Mini-docuseries The 1619 Project is just one of three Primetime Creative Arts Emmy nominations – including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series as well as Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program for the same episode (Adriana Pacheco, Jesse Allain-Marcus and Ephraim Kirkwood) – for the TV adaption of The 1619 Project created by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and the New York Times Magazine released by Hulu in January and February of 2023.

FilmLight Releases Baselight 6.0

FilmLight has announced the release of the latest version of its Baselight grading software, Baselight 6.0. Following an extensive and successful beta program, where the new software features were put through their paces by customers across the globe, Baselight 6.0 is now available to colorists worldwide.

Dane A. Davis to Receive MPSE 2024 Career Achievement Award

The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor supervising sound editor/sound designer Dane A. Davis, MPSE with its 2024 Career Achievement Award. Davis is known for his Oscar winning work on The Matrix, and for his creative contributions to that film’s sequels and scores of other films and television shows. He will receive the award at the 71st Annual Golden Reel Awards March 3, 2024, at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.

European Union Film Festival Underway in New Delhi

The 28th European Union Film Festival is now underway in New Delhi across three prominent venues—the India Habitat Centre, Instituto Cervantes (Spanish Cultural Center), and The Goethe-Institut /Max Mueller Bhavan. The festival opened with the screening of the Grand Prix-winning French film Saint Omer directed by Alice Diop.
