MTI to Show New Cortex Features at NAB 2016

MTI Film will debut the latest version of its dailies and media management software Cortex next month during the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas. New features include IMF deliveries, dead pixel correction, Dolby Vision, 4K up-resing and editing, as well as many UI improvements. Originally conceived as a streamlined dailies processing application, Cortex has developed into an end-to-end solution for managing media from the set through delivery.

Pixel Adds Creative Touch to MLK Doc

Final post-production for Justice for MLK: The Hunt for James Earl Ray, a two-hour documentary that premiered recently on the American Heroes Channel, was completed at Pixel Underground, a Sim Group company. The facility handled online, final color grading and deliverables. It also provided graphics services, creating the main title as well as dozens of artfully animated elements that appear throughout the show. Produced by Cream Productions in association with Absinthe Film Entertainment, Justice for MLK centers on the final days of Martin Luther King’s life and the tense, 65-day manhunt that led to the capture of his killer. Directed by Michael DeCarlo, the documentary is composed of archival footage, interviews with people familiar with King, Ray and the police investigation, and historical reenactments.

A new campaign launches the branding partnership between global sports brand Puma and the Red Bull Racing Formula One Team in preparation for the upcoming Formula One 2016 Season. The concept required a herd of stampeding bulls to charge around the two Red Bull Racing drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat. They turned to effects artist David Cox.

DCPSR, Riverbed Post Partner

The Dick Clark Productions Screening Room and Riverbed Post are now co-located to jointly provide a wide range of services for feature film post-production and presentation. The screening room features a 21-seat theater and associated rooms at Lantana, as well as it’s just installed Christie CP-4220 4K Digital Cinema projector and other 4K upgrades. Riverbed’s Chris F. Woods manages dailies processing, VFX, title design and production, color grading, and mastering with his state of the art finishing hardware and software.

May 18 Deadline for SMPTE Student Paper Award, Louis F. Wolf Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Student Membership Challenge fund, founded and funded by William C. Miller, SMPTE membership vice president, along with a growing number of his SMPTE colleagues, pays for the first year of membership for new Student Members. SMPTE also supports Student Chapters at colleges, universities, and institutions where courses are offered in technical areas of film, video, and television. Student Chapters give students the opportunity to meet industry leaders and professionals, and to interact outside of the classroom with other students and faculty who have an interest in the motion-imaging industry.
