With its fourth season, the National Geographic series Genius presents a dual portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, inspirational leaders who paved parallel paths as pioneers in the American civil rights movement in the 1950s and ’60s. Genius: MLK/X traces their journeys from their formative years through their rise to prominence, as they each shaped a legacy that remains vitally important. Trevor Forrest, the lead director of photography for MLK/X, worked closely with Panavision to select an equipment package based around Panavised Arri Alexa 35 cameras and Primo spherical lenses, with modified Anamorphic Flare Attachments used for key moments.

11 Dollar Bill Names Slade Executive Producer

11 Dollar Bill has hired ad industry veteran Jamie Slade as executive producer at its Boulder studio. Slade, whose background includes serving as senior producer with Crispin Porter + Bogusky, will oversee production and head sales for the post-production studio, which specializes in creative design, editing and finishing for advertising, branded content, and other media.

Pixelogic Acquires Mediafellows

Pixelogic, a global provider of premium creative, localization, and distribution services for the media and entertainment industry, has acquired the Berlin, Germany-based content platform provider Mediafellows. Established in 2020, Mediafellows is a provider of business-to-business software as a service that enable media asset management, content marketing and sales, and cloud-based fulfillment services.

Motion Picture Academy to Honor Laser Projection

Ten years after the initial rollout of laser cinema projectors, the technology and the people who developed it are being honored with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Scientific and Technical Awards. Sixteen people from seven companies will be recognized on February 23. I am humbled to be recognized for my pioneering utilization of semiconductor lasers for theatrical laser projection systems. My advocacy and education to the cinema industry while at Laser Light Engines contributed to the transition to laser projection in theatrical exhibition. The other honorees are:

Established with the slogan Mersin as a film city to assist all productions planning to shoot films in Mersin, Mersin Cinema Office aims to find locations, resources, and creative solutions for projects to be realized in the city.

RSP Wins Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award

Rising Sun Pictures’ visual effects supervisor Julian Hutchens and visual effects producers Ian Cope, Andrew Whitehurst, Kathy Siegel and Alistair Williams, won the 2024 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award for Best Visual Effects or Animation for their work on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
