Trizz Makes Long Distance Call with Frankie

Barcelona creative shop Trizz is known for its unconventional work, directing and designing for a mix of 3D, VFX and experience design, including multi-touch, interactive and projection mapping. Its work appears in TVCs, art galleries, publications and even during concerts and other live events. Chris Vulpi and Oriol Puig, who co-founded Trizz in 2009, say they have identified inefficiencies in the VFX and post industry and applied a more streamlined, workable model to their business.

Hoax Co-Founder Alexis Nelson to Speak at Careers in Digital Media Forum

Alexis Nelson, co-founder and executive producer of Hoax Films, will take part in a panel discussion focused on careers in digital media in an event hosted by the Los Angeles chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH and Otis College of Art and Design. “Careers in Digital Media 2014” will feature managers and recruiters from some of the visual effects industry’s leading companies. They will offer insights into the career outlook in games, broadcast, television, film and other media, and provide the inside scoop into where the jobs are and where they aren’t.

Understanding the Changing Nature of Filmed Stories

Filmmaker Matt Ogens latest effort is a feature length documentary called Meet the Hitlers. When he selects the right for any of his projects his first thought, though, is how best to tell the story is wants to convey. “It all comes down to telling great stories,” said Ogens. “There are different types of stories, and the nature of the story itself may change how I capture it on film. To decide on that, I collaborate with a director of photography and ask what type of camera he or she thinks is best for each project from a creative perspective, but sometimes the reality of a budget may also dictate what cameras are available to me. We will discuss the look I want for the story and then the DP and I will choose the camera.”

The Motion Picture Sound Editors has announced the results of the 2013 election of its Board of Directors. Elected to two-year terms in Executive Seats are Frank Morrone as President, Christopher Reeves as Secretary, and Ruth Adelman as Sargent at Arms. Morrone and Reeves are incumbents. They join continuing officers Mark Lanza (Vice President) and Paul Rodriguez (Treasurer).

Friendshop! Launches in New York

Editors Tim Wilson and Ben Suenaga have departed Go Robot!, New York, and opened a new editing company with partner and managing director/executive producer Melissa Mapes called Friendshop! The new venture will temporarily operate as artists in residence at Outpost Digital, New York, while permanent offices are undergoing construction.

Dolby Names Behlmer Senior VP Content Solutions and Industry Relations

Dolby Laboratories today announced that cinema-industry veteran Curt Behlmer is joining Dolby as senior vice president of content solutions and industry relations, reporting to Doug Darrow, senior vice president, cinema. Behlmer and his team will advance and evangelize the possibilities of cinema sight and sound, starting with Dolby Atmos audio, making sure that Dolby technologies fit well into content workflows and are embraced by the industry.
