MoCap Makes Maz Kanata Go

In a pivotal moment in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the CGI character Maz Kanata, played by Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, shows up just in time to give the Rebels a vital piece of information. Although Maz’s appearance is brief, the complex shoot involved creating a temporary, studio-grade motion capture stage inside the famed Pinewood Studios. To complete this task, Lucasfilm turned to Audiomotion and its Vicon system.

Sarasota Plans Major Sound Stage

WEDU PBS, Semkhor Networks, and Ringling College of Art and Design have signed a letter of intent to develop a wide-ranging collaboration centered on a new sound stage and post-production facility, which is slated to be fully operational in 2017. The first large stage will open later this year. The new facility is designed to take full advantage of the rapid advancements in digital production and distribution with the flexibility to support a wide range of content production.

Panavision, Light Iron Unveil Joint New Orleans Facility

Panavision has announced the opening of an expanded New Orleans location. The new 30,500-square-foot space will also house Light Iron’s first brick-and-mortar facility in Louisiana. The facility represents the first location occupied by the two companies since Panavision acquired Light Iron earlier this year.
