I last spoke with B&B Theatres executive vice president Brock Bagby in April as businesses across the country were shutting down in response to COVID-19. At that time all of their theatres were dark and the company had furloughed nearly 2,000 employees. I recently emailed Bagby to see if he would agree to a follow-up interview. His response was to say yes, adding, “But it’s been a rough seven months.” B&B Theatres, the sixth largest theatre chain in North America, is not just any independent cinema chain. For nearly a century, the company has understood better than most of their competitors that they don’t just show movies; they are in show business. They believe that movies are magic and their theatres amplify the experience like few others.

The Journey First Middle Eastern Film to Release in 4DX Format

Saudi Arabian animation studio Manga Production is releasing its debut feature-length animated film The Journey in the 4DX format, the first film in the Middle East to do so. 4DX Sets January Box Office Record

CJ 4DPlex today announced that its multi-sensory 4DX format drew $23 million at the global box office in January, up 18 percent year-over-year, making it the highest ever recorded for the month of January in the history of the company, this despite screenings being suspended in China for several days.

4DX Format Broke Box Office Records in 2019

CJ 4DPlex ended a successful 2019 with a record-breaking global box office for theatres with 4DX immersive seats, grossing more than $320 million, according to the company. With its best year yet at the global box office in 2019, ticket sales for movies shown in 4DX theatres increased 12 percent over 2018's record of $286 million.
