The Tragedy of Macbeth—written four centuries ago for the stage—has been translated to the screen throughout cinema history. Replete with medieval atmosphere, witches, and murder, the iconic tale has now been retold by director Joel Coen. Working with director of photography Bruno Delbonnel ASC, AFC, Coen developed a visual approach to the bloody proceedings that emphasizes Shakespeare’s matchless language and the faces of the actors delivering it.

Making Birds of Paradise

Produced for Amazon Studios, the feature film Birds of Paradise tells the story of two girls at an elite Parisian ballet academy that have their bond and bodies tested as they compete for a contract to join the company of the Opéra National de Paris. The film was directed by Sarah Adina Smith, who not only adapted the A.K. Small novel for the screenplay, but also happens to be director of photography Shaheen Seth’s wife.

Filmed in Imax Program Unveiled

Imax Corporation has unveiled its Filmed In Imax program, a new partnership with the world's leading camera manufacturers to meet filmmaker demand for the Imax Experience. Through the program, Imax will certify high-end, best-in-class digital cinema cameras with leading brands including Arri, Panavision, Red Digital Cinema and Sony to work in the Imax format when paired with its proprietary post-production process. Top Gun: Maverick shot with Sony's Venice, and Dune, shot with the Arri Alexa LF, will be among the first releases certified as Filmed in Imax.

Facing the Challenge of Giant Screen Close-Ups

Cinematographer Peter Chang has completed his latest film, Cuba, which won the Best Documentary award at the 34th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and has begun releasing to museums, educational institutions and other giant screen and IMAX venues. In a break from giant screen tradition, his film features close-ups. To accomplish that, he turned to Cooke lenses.
