MovieLabs Publishes Ontology for Media Creation

Motion Pictures Laboratories or MovieLabs, a technology joint venture of the major Hollywood studios, has published the first version of a common ontology for production technologists designing software-defined workflows for the media and entertainment industry. The Ontology for Media Creation provides a conceptual framework and a set of defined terms to enable both people and software to communicate unambiguously with greater data interoperability.

The Evolution of Media Creation

In the MovieLabs white paper The Evolution of Media Creation, we outlined a vision for implementing true cloud-native production workflows. In that vision media production moves outside of the security perimeters that protect individual facilities such as post-production and VFX companies and becomes a virtualized security system to protect all of those involved in production workflows. These workflows transcend organizations, and simply stated, protecting them requires a new approach to security.
