PostWorks Digital Cinema Sees Growth

Last July PostWorks New York announced that it had formed a new digital film distribution service, PostWorks Digital Cinema, and hired industry veteran Greg Fornero to lead it. The plan was to work with indie film producers and distributors, international film festivals and independent digital intermediate facilities to provide digital cinema package duplication, drive set rentals and sales, KDM management and broadband content delivery services. To get a progress report on the new service I recently visited the PostWorks’ facility in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood to meet with senior vice president for theatrical services Clark Henderson.

Ymagis Tests DPROVE2 for SMPTE-DCP Verification

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers today announced that Ymagis Group, the European specialist in digital technologies for the cinema industry, has used the next generation of SMPTE's Digital PROjection VErifier (DPROVE2) to simplify and accelerate adoption of the SMPTE Digital Cinema Package (SMPTE-DCP).

QuVis Releases 4K Stand Alone DCP Player

QuVis Technologies has released the Ovation II DCP player 2.1, which the company says is the first player capable of supporting 4K playback in a small form factor and at an affordable price. QuVis spokesman Keith Doughty says the Ovation II is expected to ease the challenges faced by independent film festival organizers for playback and screening. It can also provide a platform for independent film producers to efficiently and effectively test their DCPs before showing them on the big screen.

Rohde & Schwarz Clipster Now Supports AS-11 Delivery Format

The Rohde & Schwarz Clipster now supports AS-11 and can generate Interoperable Master Format packages up to 4K, in addition to the mezzanine format AS-02. The British Digital Production Partnership (DPP) initiative decided to implement AS-11 as the standard delivery format from October 2014. This format is of great interest to the U.S. market too as programs are often produced there for the British market and they need to meet the same delivery format requirements from October.
