Academy Names Scientific and Technical Achievement Winners
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has named the eight scientific and technical achievements represented by 19 individual award recipients who will be honored at its annual Scientific and Technical Awards presentation on Friday, February 24 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, marking its return to an in-person event for the first time since 2019.
Rolando B. Rodriguez to Receive 2023 NATO Marquee Award
The National Association of Theatre Owners will honor Rolando B. Rodriguez, chairman of NATO and senior advisor to The Marcus Corporation and Influx, with the 2023 NATO Marquee Award during this year’s CinemaCon. The announcement was made by Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon.
Colin Farrell to Receive SOC 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award
The Society of Camera Operators has announced that the association’s 2023 Lifetime Achievement Awards’ Governors Award recipient is Oscar nominee Colin Farrell. Hosted at the Loews Hollywood Hotel on February 25, the SOC Awards show will honor the top professionals and operators in motion picture, television, and the industry at large.
Cinemark Oscar Movie Week Festival Runs March 6-12
Cinemark is bringing back the all-inclusive festival pass for its annual Oscar Movie Week festival. In theatres from March 6-12, the festival gives moviegoers the chance to experience this year’s Best Picture and Best Live Action and Animated Short Film nominees in advance of Hollywood’s biggest night, when the 95th Oscars air March 12 on ABC. The festival is being held at more than 120 participating Cinemark theatres nationwide.
CineSpace 2022 Winning Films to be Screened January 28
On January 28, NASA, the Houston Cinema Arts Society, and Space Center Houston will host a screening of films by finalists and winners of the 2022 CineSpace international short film competition.
Society of Camera Operators Names Awards Nominees
The Society of Camera Operators has announced the nominees for the Camera Operator of the Year awards for the Film and Television categories. Nominees will be awarded live and in-person at the Loews Hollywood Hotel on February 25 during the annual Society of Camera Operators Lifetime Achievement Awards. In a first for the awards, the SOC has announced six nominees for Camera Operator of the Year in both the Film and Television categories.
Dolby’s Ioan Allen Receives ICTA Icon Award
Dolby Laboratories’ Ioan Allen has been presented with the International Cinema Technology Association presented with its Icon Award. Allen becomes the second honoree to receive the award, which was first bestowed upon the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation for its efforts to aid members of the cinema industry when COVID-19 closed theatres.
