SMPTE Elevates 16 to Fellow Status

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has announced that this year — the Society's centennial year — it will elevate 16 industry leaders to the status of SMPTE Fellow. This honor is conferred on individuals who have, through their proficiency and contributions to the industry, attained an outstanding rank among members of the Society. The Mill Blackbird Wins HPA Creativity and Innovation Award

The Hollywood Professional Association has awarded its prestigious Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation to The Mill Blackbird. Created by The Mill, the Blackbird is the first fully adjustable car rig that creates photorealistic CG cars. The coveted honor will be bestowed November 17, 2016 at the 11th annual HPA Awards gala at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California.

Barco DP2K-20CLP Projector Receives BIRTV2016 Award

Barco’s DP2K-20CLP laser phosphor cinema projector has been presented with the 2016 Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Equipment Exhibition’s special product award. The Barco DP2K-20CLP projector, which clinched the award this year, is the first laser phosphor projector based on China’s proprietary ALPD technology and the first to break 20,000 lumens.

SMPTE to Honor Cameron, Trumbull

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers will honor filmmakers James Cameron and Douglas Trumbull as part of this year’s weeklong SMPTE 2016 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition in Hollywood, California. The society will also recognize a long list of outstanding individuals with its 2016 Honors & Awards.

ReDirect Explore Winners Named

Red Digital Cinema in partnership with Outside Television has announced Isaac Sokol’s Into Dust as the winning short film in this year’s edition of the ReDirect Explore competition. Second place went to Jesse Hoffman for The Process. Joey Schusler’s Pedal to Peaks won the Fan Favorite category.

March on Washington Film Festival Names Winners

The March on Washington Film Festival has named the winners of its inaugural Student and Emerging Filmmaker Competition. The eight films were selected from 75 projects that responded to the question: what’s your civil right? Jurors named winners and runners-up in narrative and documentary categories, for both student and emerging filmmakers. The winning films showcase diverse and powerful young voices, and cover a range of issues including criminal justice reform, immigration, racial justice, sexuality, and gender identity.

QSC Wins Teddy Award Second Year in a Row

For the second year in a row, the International Cinema Technology Association has honored QSC Cinema with the Teddy Award. Each year the award recognizes the manufacturer who best exemplifies the progressive principles of product development, and provides dealers with service and up-to-date technical and sales information, while supporting the status of their product without qualification.
