The 2015 SMPTE Samuel L. Warner Memorial Medal Award has been presented to Sripal Mehta of Dolby Laboratories and Harold Hallikainen of USL in recognition of their collaborative work in the development of closed caption communication protocol standards for digital cinema.
The deadline to submit entries for consideration in the American Society of Cinematographers annual television competition is noon PST November 2. The two award categories are Television Movie, Miniseries or Pilot, and an Episode of a Regular Series. Nominees will be named in November, and winners announced at the awards gala on February 14, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Century City.
John Toll, ASC, Bill Bennett, ASC and Lowell Peterson, ASC will be recognized for their contributions to the art of cinematography at the 30th Annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for Outstanding Achievement on February 14, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Century City. Oscar-winner Toll will receive the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Peterson will be honored with the Career Achievement in Television Award, and Bennett will take home the ASC Presidents Award.
The Event Cinema Association’s Box Office ECA Awards winners have just been announced, along with nominees for the hotly anticipated Awards of Excellence. The Awards, which recognize excellence in international box office admissions, programming, distribution and exhibition in all fields of the Event Cinema sector are in their third year and are sponsored by Rentrak.
Shuai Zhen, senior sales manager, entertainment solutions, Christie China, was presented with the BIRTV Award during the awards presentation ceremony held at the Conference Hall of Beijing International Hotel on August 25. The event was attended by more than 300 representatives from China’s radio, television and film industries.
FuseFX, the lead visual effects provider for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., is nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Visual Effects; the second straight year they’ve been so honored. They’ve also tallied three V.E.S. Award nominations and an Online Film & Television Award nomination over the course of the show’s first two seasons.
American Horror Story is a major hit for FX. The show has won the loyalty of fans and kudos from critics for its smart, imaginative storytelling and superb performances from its stellar ensemble cast. The show also features some of the best visual effects on television. Ranging from photo-real set extensions to CG characters to all manner of blood and gore, they are the work of Burbank-based FuseFX, whose team is currently nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role.
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has named the outstanding industry members who will be recognized October 29 at the SMPTE 2015 Awards Ceremony. The SMPTE 2015 Awards Ceremony, supported by Imax, is being held in conjunction with the SMPTE 2015 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.
