Six Days Films, Roast Beef Productions, Doc Society and Journeyman Films are releasing the critically acclaimed documentary F@ck This Job (Tango with Putin) in UK cinemas beginning February 24. Produced by Mike Lerner (Oscar-nominated Hell and Back Again, Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer) produced and directed by Vera Krichevskaya and executive produced by Jess Search (Oscar winning Citizenfour, Emmy-nominated Virunga), Sandra Whipham (Emmy award-winning P.O.V. and Enemies of the People) and Barbara Biemann (National Bird), the film is an unprecedented look at censorship and the dramatic changing media landscape inside Putin’s Russia since 2008.

Qube Cinema Introduces WireTAP Air for Content Delivery

Qube Cinema has introduced the WireTAP Air theatre appliance, a small-form factor device that connects theatres to Qube Wire’s global cloud delivery platform via 5G or 4G mobile networks and allows for the seamless delivery of trailers and advertising DCPs. The company says these options provide an ideal way to connect exhibitors at a significantly lower cost than was previously possible.

Escándalo Secreto: En Plena Cuarentena Premieres on Distro TV

Executives at Distro TV say they are about to make history as the first independent, free ad-supported streaming television platform to debut an original feature film with the global premiere of the new Hispanic film, Escándalo Secreto: En Plena Cuarentena. The comedy feature film, directed and written by Jorge Cano, premieres February 25. This marks the latest installment in DistroTV’s new, free-to-stream DistroTV Español channel bundle and comes on the heels of DistroTV’s recent expansion of its global distribution footprint, which now includes Latin American audiences.

Pathé Tuschinski Upgrades Sound System

The Pathé Tuschinski in Amsterdam, which has been widely acclaimed as the most beautiful movie theatre in the world, celebrated its 100th anniversary last October. Pathé Tuschinski is regularly used for red carpet premieres and, with three more auditoriums added by the purchase of the next-door cinema in the 1980s, audiences can watch films in the luxury of its restored Art Deco interior, with plush seating, private boxes, love seats and at-seat delivery of food and drink. The cinema also boasts 21st Century sound.

Global Cinema Box Office Gaining Ground

This past weekend marked the two-year anniversary of China’s first lockdown in 2020, which marked the beginning of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global box office. There have been a lot of ups and downs since then but there has also been recovery and, despite a few limited re-closures in the past two months, the global exhibition sector, and as a result global box office, is in a far more robust place than it was a year ago, according to the latest report from the London analytics firm Gower Street. China’s business was dormant this week with long-running local holdovers Embrace Again and Fireflies in the Sun sustaining the market until the Chinese New Year holiday begins on February 1.
