MPSE Now Accepting Submissions for Annual Gold Reel Awards
The Motion Picture Sound Editors association is now accepting submissions for the 69th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards. Honoring outstanding achievement in sound editing across 17 categories encompassing feature films, broadcast media, gaming and student work, the awards will be presented on March 13, 2022.
ICTA Names the Winners of the 2021-2022 EMEA Awards
The International Cinema Technology Association today announced the 2021-2022 winners of the ICTA EMEA Awards, celebrating technological leadership, design, and innovation in the cinema exhibition sector in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The winners will be celebrated during ICTA’s annual awards and dinner reception October 3 in Barcelona, just before the start of CineEurope. This year’s winners are:
Poppy Crum to Receive DEG Hedy Lamarr Award
The Digital Entertainment Group has named Poppy Crum, chief scientist at Dolby Laboratories, the 2021 recipient of the Hedy Lamarr Award for Innovation in Entertainment Technology. In its fifth year, the Hedy Lamarr Award recognizes female executives in the fields of entertainment and technology who have made a significant contribution to the industry.
Judges Chosen for FilmLight Color Awards
The winners of FilmLight’s new colorist awards will be announced at EnergaCamerImage 2021 November 13-20 in Torun, Poland. The judging and awards are being organized with the co-operation of the American Society of Cinematographers, the International Federations of Cinematographers and the Colorist Society International. Roberto Schaefer, ASC AIC-Imago, said, “For years I have believed that as cinematographers we need to acknowledge that there is more to creating the best cinematography. The finished product is the work of many talented and artistic individuals who should be recognized in a wide, cross-departmental way. I hope that this will be a beginning.”
GDC Wins 2020 ICTA Teddy Award for Manufacturer of the Year
GDC Technology received the 2020 International Cinema Technology Association Teddy Award for Manufacturer of the Year. The award recipient is determined by active voting members of the ICTA and was presented at the association’s annual convention, held last month in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers today announced that the SMPTE+ virtual event Migrating Media & Entertainment into the Cloud: A Real-World Perspective, now slated for August 31, will feature a session exploring preservation, continuity, and resilience after the move to the cloud. In addition to outlining best practices across these areas, experts will answer the uncomfortable question, "What happens in the unlikely event that the internet fails?"
