Cinemobiel: Movies on the Road

As movie lovers cope with the challenges of quarantining, entrepreneurs around the world have experimented with an almost endless number of variations of drive-in and pop-up theatres. No one knows if this is a trend that will sustain itself or a fad that will fade away once the pandemic has ended. But I thought it would make sense to get some perspective about what’s involved in that kind of business from the people at Cinemobiel in Belgium, a group of friends who, for the past 20 years, have been presenting movies from a fire truck in towns all across their country. Which is why I spoke, via email, with Simon Verschelde, Cinemobiel’s only fulltime employee.

Disney to Screen Short Horror Films from 20th Digital Studio

20th Digital Studio will premiere a series featuring 60 diverse, genre-bending short films for Halloween. These range from horror comedy to psychological thrillers and everything in between. The entire series will be screened in September and October across Disney’s digital and broadcast platforms including ABC, Freeform, FX and Hulu.

Éclair Theatrical Services has partnered with France’s Superior Commission for Image and Sound (CST) and the Federation of French Cinemas (FNCF) by overseeing the DCP mastering of their “Test” film, produced specially to allow French cinemas to ensure their projection equipment remains fully functional prior to reopening.

JBL Debuts Cinema Expansion Series Line of Commercial Theatre Sound Systems

Harman has introduced JBL Professional Cinema Expansion Series sound systems for small to medium-size commercial theatres. The company says the line, which includes JBL 3153 and 4253 3-way screen-channel loudspeakers, 3181F and 4281F subwoofers and 8102 surrounds, delivers the highest SPLs in its class and covers rooms up to 85 feet (26 meters) deep and up to 40 feet (12 meters) wide. Harman also debuted the 2-channel, 1,300-watt Crown XLC 21300 amplifier, which supports cinema series speakers in a range of system configurations.

CineEurope August Show Cancelled; Online Conference set for June

Faced with the new realities posed by the COVID-2019 pandemic, in a statement released today, organizers for CineEurope 2020 said, “With concern for the health and safety of our attendees as our absolute priority, we regret to inform you that we have decided now to cancel the 2020 CineEurope Convention, planned for August.”
