Dolby to Acquire Doremi

Dolby Laboratories today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Doremi Labs, the leading provider of digital cinema video playback solutions. Together with Dolby’s award winning Dolby Atmos object-based sound platform, Dolby and Doremi will enable exhibitors and content creators to redefine the movie experience for audiences around the world. Dolby is acquiring Doremi for $92.5 million in cash plus an additional $20 million in contingent consideration that may be earned over a four-year period.

Documentary Why We Ride Tries New Distribution Plan

Gnarlynow Entertainment and Walking West Entertainment have announced that Why We Ride is now available digitally, giving worldwide audiences access to this award winning film. For the first time, wherever Amazon and iTunes is available, audiences around the globe will be able to view the film that has brought the motorcycle community together in celebration of what it means to ride. Bryan H. Carroll and James Walker produced the film. Carroll also directed the film.

Customers Enthusiastic about Omniplex Digital Cinema Upgrade

Last December in Cork, Ireland cinema chain Omniplex officially opened the country’s first theater to be equipped with Auro 11.1 immersive sound by Barco. Along with a 19 by 90 meter OmniplexMAXX screen, it was part of a major refurbishment project. The new theater also includes a Barco digital cinema projector capable of showing 3D films at high frame rates.

Jack Kline Named Chairman, President and CEO of Christie Worldwide

Christie today announced that Kenji Hamashima, chairman, president and CEO of the Christie group of companies will step down from his current role effective April 1 and that Jack Kline, president and COO, Christie Digital Systems USA will assume the role of chairman, president and CEO of all of Christie’s operating companies, worldwide.

Germany’s Haus Zoar Movie Theater Upgrades Sound System

Located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Mönchengladbach has a history that goes back to the 10th century—but the city’s newly completed movie theater features the latest digital cinema technology. This is particularly true where the sound is concerned. Haus Zoar is Germany’s first cinema to feature a Dolby Atmos Connect interface with Harman’s Crown DCi Series network amplifiers. The cinema has also deployed JBL ScreenArray loudspeakers in an installation that takes surround sound realism to new heights – literally.

Digital Cinema Distribution Looks to the Sky

Last September, International Datacasting announced that DSAT Cinema had committed to buy more than 1,000 of its SuperFlex Pro Video Receivers. Since its inception last year, DSAT Cinema, the Eutelsat and dcinex joint venture has used IDC’s technology to deliver more than 300 films and 50 live broadcasts, from iconic locations that include the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre and the Royal Opera House in London. The companies described their relationship as an alliance and a partnership. Digital Cinema Report recently spoke with Walter Capitani, International Datacasting’s vice president of marketing to get an update on the progress they’ve made to date.
