Addressing Yesterday’s Workflow Challenges

Yesterday, the new British musical comedy directed by Danny Boyle, which was released last month following its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival, used as many as twelve cameras for some scenes. This presented some serious workflow challenges. To address them, cinematographer Christopher Ross BSC, who had previously worked with Boyle on the TV series Trust was joined by Mission digital imaging technician Thomas Patrick who had worked with him for the first time on Trust in 2017.

MTI Film, maker of the Cortex family of set-to-screen workflow software, has just been awarded U.S. Patent 10,349,097 for its Graphical Editing Solution for High Dynamic Range Metadata. The software tool provides a simple way to ensure that HDR metadata is properly aligned with associated HDR video. It saves time and eliminates errors in preparing feature film and television content for delivery in formats including Dolby Vision HDR.

Matthieu Straub Joins FilmLight as Technical Advisor

Well-known French digital imaging technician and film workflow specialist, Matthieu Straub, has joined FilmLight. Based in Paris, he will provide technical advice and practical assistance to FilmLight clients in France and Benelux, as well as acting as the company’s voice in local key trade groups and with training partners in the production and post marketplaces.

Foley for Fosse/Verdon

Alchemy Post Sound put on its tap shoes (and a whole lot more) to create the Foley sound for Fosse/Verdon, FX’s critically acclaimed limited series about choreographer Bob Fosse (Sam Rockwell) and his collaborator and wife, the singer/dancer Gwen Verdon (Michelle Williams). Working under the direction of supervising sound editors Daniel Timmons and Tony Volante, Foley artist Leslie Bloome and his team performed and recorded hundreds of custom sound effects to support the show’s sultry dance sequences and add realistic ambience to its historic settings.

For Rising Sun, It’s Elemental

Rising Sun Pictures delivered more than 100 visual effects shots for Columbia Pictures’ and Marvel Studios’ superhero epic Spider-Man: Far From Home, one of this year’s most anticipated blockbusters. The studio’s work included a memorable holographic sequence that reveals one of the film’s biggest mysteries: the origins of The Elementals, four monstrous creatures from a parallel universe with the ability to control fire, earth, water and wind.

Sennheiser Acquires Majority Stake in Dear Reality VR/AR Audio Software Company

Audio specialist Sennheiser has taken a majority shareholding in Dear Reality, a leader in spatial audio algorithms and VR/AR audio software. The company will continue to operate as a separate business based in Düsseldorf and customers will be able to rely on existing dearVR products. In addition, they can look forward to joint VR/AR workflows by Sennheiser and Dear Reality. Uwe Cremering, responsible for Ambeo Immersive Audio at Sennheiser, will support the company as a third CEO alongside founders Achim Fell and Christian Sander.
