George Miller to Receive MPSE Filmmaker of the Year Award

The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor Academy Award-winner George Miller with its annual Filmmaker Award. Miller is being honored for a career noteworthy for its incredibly broad scope and consistent excellence. The Australian writer, director and producer is responsible for some of the most successful and beloved films of recent decades including Mad Max, Mad Max 2: Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and Mad Max: Fury Road.

Lynette Duensing Named CSI Fellow

The Colorist Society International has appointed Lynette Duensing to a position as Fellow. Duensing is being recognized for her outstanding achievements and contributions to the craft of color across a highly productive career spanning more than 30 years. Other CSI Fellows include Dale Grahn, Lou Levinson, Charles Poynton, Walter Volpatto and Kevin Shaw.

Writers Lab for Women over 40 Open for Registration

The Writers Lab is asking for submissions for its 2021 program for women screenwriters over the age of 40. The Lab is produced by co-founders Elizabeth Kaiden and Nitza Wilon and New York Women in Film & Television, and has been supported by Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and Oprah Winfrey. The Lab will see the emergence of its first completed project in 2021: Alyson Richards’ horror film The Retreat.

Laika Names Sheppard Head of Development

Ian Sheppard has been appointed head of development at Laika, the award-winning animation studio known for the films Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and Missing Link. A veteran animation executive, Sheppard’s career has included senior positions at Skydance Animation, DreamWorks Animation and Nickelodeon. He will report directly to Laika president & CEO Travis Knight.

Thomson Named CEO of Liquid Media Group
