The 72nd Venice International Film Festival opened today with the 3D laser projection of Baltasar Kormákur’s Everest. The Universal Pictures International film was projected using a Lux laser light source developed by Cinemeccanica, Technical Partner of 72nd Venice International Film Festival.

CJ 4DPlex has entered into an agreement with Marcus Theatres, the fifth-largest theatre chain in the United States, to bring 4DX technology to the Chicago market for the first time. After having its U.S. debut in Los Angeles last year, and announcing plans to be available in two New York theatres later this year, this new relationship paves the way for the immersive five-sense cinematic experience to its third U.S. market.

After years of working for Disney, when Jeff Brein undertook the challenge of renovating Seattle’s historic Admiral Theatre, he committed himself to creating the best movie going experience possible. At the time the work started he said, “Everything we will be doing as a part of this renovation is designed to create a superior viewing experience and facility that while functionally modern, respects viewer comfort and the historical character of the theater.”

FuseFX, the lead visual effects provider for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., is nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Visual Effects; the second straight year they’ve been so honored. They’ve also tallied three V.E.S. Award nominations and an Online Film & Television Award nomination over the course of the show’s first two seasons.
