CineEurope Focuses on Event Cinema

This year the buzz at CineEurope seemed to be all about alternative content, or event cinema as it’s being increasingly referred to. As chair of the ECA it’s difficult to gain real perspective from the eye of the storm but having seen the business grow from an occasional add-on for exhibitors to a serious revenue stream in more recent years, the sense in Barcelona last month was that in event cinema, the possibilities are endless and the sense of real excitement was tangible. Everyone from major studios to major cinema chains to independents to technical partners seemed keen to know more, hear more, do more to exploit this established and still growing revenue stream.

Cinepolis Completes Mexico Deployment of 2,656 Doremi Servers

During the past three years, Cinepolis has completed the exclusive installation of more than 3000 Doremi Integrated Media Block servers with ShowVault. Cinepolis, Latin America’s largest cinema chain has concluded its deployment in Mexico with 286 theaters that span 84 cities, and has expanded globally to operate over 3,000 screens.

Dolby Atmos Passes 50-Film Milestone, Tops 200 Screens Worldwide

Dolby Laboratories announced today five new film titles to be mixed in its new sound format Dolby Atmos. With the addition of Las Brujas de Zugarramundi (Spain), Mindscape (Spain and Canada), Tarzan 3D (Germany), Mr. Go (Korea), and nature documentary Guadalquivir (Spain), Dolby Atmos has passed the milestone of 50 titles announced within one year since Disney•Pixar’s Brave in June 2012.

Barco Releases CineMate App for Digital Cinema Theatre Control

Barco has released CineMate, a free mobile app for both Apple iOS and Android devices that enables exhibitors to easily control and operate their digital cinema equipment via their smart phone, tablet or other mobile device. The app will be available for download in the App Store and Google Play from mid-July onwards.
